Video Live on Yahoo!

I’ve been a big proponent of Yahoo!’s YUI libraries and the way they’ve adopted and supported open source technologies. I recognize that the company is fractured and needs some direction, but what I just logged into and participated in was pretty cool, Y! Live.

Y! Live is a video chat room where multiple people can be viewed via webcam, talk via webcam and chat via normal chat region. Here’s a pic of me in the session:

Y! Live

Thanks to Aaron Brazell (Technosailor), via Twitter, invited me into the Y! Live chat room of Arial Waldman

You can find my video channel as well! I can even embed it in this post!

UPDATE AND IMPORTANT TIP! Be sure to go in and remove your personal channel from public view, otherwise you’ll get an enormous amount of spam traffic and nasty people leaving nasty chat messages. I added this tip after getting a question from Patricia from the Golf Girl’s Diary.

Isn’t it weird that I can see you writing your blog, on your blog?

Personally, I would feel uncomfortable opening up my home like that, i.e. allowing people to see me without knowing who they are. Also, are you always aware of the possibility of being watched?

Hmmm… maybe I am just getting old.

It’s even more strange to watch me watching me blogging on my blog about watching me!

…and maybe even weirder that there are 10 people watching you work…

Reminds me of the days when I worked on film-sets, and dozens of people would stop watching us work during their lunch break.

But at least I could see them ;)
