New York Daily News: Jet Blue sued by Muslim Pilot

I’ve stated my opinion before that I am against the loss of freedom in the defense of freedom. Just as terrible is an injustice based on religion or race. This news story speaks to a Pakistani American who was supposedly hired… and then the offer removed shortly after. No other reason was provided except an alleged remark that Mr. Baig states the recruiter said… he was a “security risk”.

If true, I believe this is just as damaging to our country as moves by the government to undermine our privacy in the ‘defense of our freedom’. Our country has such an embarassing past when it comes to race - and a proud past in protecting freedom of religion. It’s taken hundreds of years for us to try to eradicate racism (and may take hundreds more). If we begin to judge people based on the color of their skin or their religion due to terrorism, then the terrorists have succeeded.

As an American, Mr. Baig has a right to pursue happiness just as I do. I wish him luck in that pursuit. And I hope that America doesn’t find itself practicing the same ignorance that terrorists do. Otherwise, we as a country will only be supplying these fanatics with real reasons to hate us.
